Push to raise $25,000 to provide a week's worth of new underwear to the needy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Downtown Ecumenical Services Council needs your help to provide underwear and socks to the homeless and working poor in Jacksonville.

Every year, DESC distributes new underwear and socks to men, women and children. But its budget can only afford to give two new pairs of underwear per person. It wants to increase that donation to provide a week's worth of new underwear to each person. It needs to raise $25,000 to accomplish this goal.

How you can help:

1) Donate money to the Downtown Ecumenical Services Council, click here to learn how to create a team.

2) Donate any size or style underwear and socks for any age, infancy to adult.

The dollars and cents:

  • $276 provides 40 dozen pairs of men's socks
  • $138 will purchase 20 dozen pairs of women's socks
  • $72 will buy six dozen pairs of boys' underwear
  • $66 will purchase six dozen pairs of little girls' underwear
  • $300 will buy 12 dozen pairs of women's underwear

Deadline:

The Great Underwear Challenge ends May 12th with a celebration at the Mellow Mushroom in Avondale. Bid on eBay to win the 2004 Harley-Davidson Screaming Eagle Mortocycle or Classic Billiards table.
