Joint swearing-in ceremony planned for mayor, sheriff

Lenny Curry, Mike Williams to be inaugurated July 1 at Times-Union Center

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The details for the July 1 joint inauguration of Mayor-elect Lenny Curry and Sheriff-elect Mike Williams were announced Friday.

The day will include a public swearing-in ceremony with limited, ticketed seating and a celebratory event that is open to all of Jacksonville.

That evening, both Curry and Williams, along with their wives, will serve as the honorary hosts of Jacksonville's Art Walk with the theme being "Art of Jacksonville."  Art Walk is produced by Downtown Vision and coincides with the July 1 inauguration.

The festival spans more than 15 blocks and includes more than 40 galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants, bars and businesses, plus dozens of artists in Hemming Park, street performers and live music.

Extras during this months art walk will include special events for children in Hemming Plaza along with the mayor and his wife hosting an open house in City Hall.

"On the occasion of becoming our great city's next mayor, I invite the people of Jacksonville to join us in this celebration of Jacksonville's future," Curry said of the upcoming events. "This day belongs to the people because we will be one people working together for one purpose: a bright future for our city."

The joint inaugural schedule will include a public event in Jacoby Hall at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.

Schedule of public events include:

July 1

  • Curry and Williams Swearing-In -- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Doors open at 11 a.m. Program begins at 11:30 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m.; Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
  • City Hall Open House in conjunction with Art Walk -- 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
