Police: Man attempts to rob bank on Philips Highway

Man pushes note with bomb threat to teller, leaves without cash, JSO says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A would-be robber pushed a note to a bank teller Friday morning demanding cash, but then left the bank without taking any money, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Just before 10 a.m., police were called to the BB&T Bank on Philips Highway near the Avenues Mall.

Police said a white man, 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 250 to 300 pounds drove up to the bank in a black four-door vehicle.

The man, who was wearing eyeglasses, a white buttoned-down shirt with pockets, shorts and flip flops, walked into the bank and approached the front counter.

He did not speak to the teller, but handed her a note that said there was a bomb and that he was wearing a microphone. The note also demanded money and told the teller to stay calm, police said.

As the teller was reading the note, the would-be robber snatched it from her hand, turned and left the bank, police said.

He got back into his vehicle and drove away, heading north.

The man did not take any money, made no threats and did not show a weapon, police said.

No one was injured, police said.
