JSO: Teen critically injured in dirt-bike crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 16-year-old was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries late Thursday afternoon when the dirt bike he was riding collided with an SUV, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said it's unclear who was at fault in the accident, which took place about 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of East 10th and Franklin streets.

The man driving the SUV originally drove away from the scene of the accident, then returned and is cooperating with police, JSO Sgt. Jeffrey Straitt said. Police did not say how much time passed before the driver returned to the scene.

The driver of the SUV has minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

Police said charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
