JSO honors fallen officers

Public invited to attend annual 'Tribute to Our Fallen Officers' service

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office holds its annual memorial service to honor its fallen officers Thursday starting at 10:45 a.m. The public is invited to join JSO, family members, friends and colleagues of slain officers during the "Tribute to Our Fallen Officers" service.

The event will be held on Bay Street in front of the Police Memorial Building.

The memorial honors the 60 men who have died in the line of duty since 1840, protecting the lives and property of the citizens of the Jacksonville community.

Retired Admiral Victor Guillory will read a Police Memorial Day proclamation during the ceremony. The tribute also includes a "Twenty-One Gun Salute" by the JSO Honor Guard, "Missing Man" flyover by the JSO Aviation Unit, music selections by the Clay County Sheriff's Office Pipes and Drums and the retiring of the Memorial Wreath by Sheriff John Rutherford and Fraternal Order of Police President Steve Amos.

Bay Street between Liberty and Marsh streets will be closed from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the day of the event.
