According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Wright hit another vehicle Tuesday morning while making a left turn from Union Street onto Julia Street in a Chevrolet TrailBlazer.

The crash was witnessed by a detective in an unmarked JSO vehicle, who told the drivers to pull over. The second driver stopped, but Wright drove away, and the detective followed him, according to the arrest report.

The detective pulled up to the driver's side of Wright's SUV while he was stopped in traffic, got out of his car, identified himself as a police officer and ordered Wright to pull over. But Wright sped away, and the detective chased him and called for backup.

Wright drove onto southbound I-95, then onto westbound I-10, then onto southbound I-295. Another officer joined the chase, which reached speeds of nearly 90 mph, according to police.

Wright tried to swerve around slowed traffic on I-295, about a mile south of 103rd Street, and lost control of his SUV, which flipped violently off the highway.

Rescuers were called to check Wright's injuries, and he was arrested.

Police said Wright at first told them that he didn't stop because he was sick and it was “an emergency,” but then later told an officer that he fled because he didn't have a driver's license.

He also told police that “the vehicle he was driving was not stolen because he traded crack cocaine for it.”
