JSO: Man dies in motorcycle hit-and-run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 52-year-old man died from injuries he suffered in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident early Sunday morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

According to JSO, Ernest Miller was riding a motorcycle north in the 3500 area of Edgewood Avenue in the right lane when the rear tire locked for unknown reasons and the motorcycle crashed, ejecting Miller.

Another motorcyclist was riding northbound in the left lane and hit Miller, who was in the roadway. The second motorcycle went down, but after it stopped, the driver fled without checking on Miller, who was transported to the hospital, where he died.

Miller was wearing a novelty helmet, which was not DOT compliant, JSO said.

Witnesses told police that the second motorcyclist was riding with two other motorcycles as well.
