JSO officer involved in three-car crash

Officer suffered minor injuries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville police officer was involved in a three-vehicle crash on the Southbank Friday evening.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the detective was driving north on Hendricks Avenue, driving through a green light at the intersection with Prudential Drive when a car traveling east on Prudential went through a red light and crashed into the detective's car. Their crash caused them to hit a third vehicle.

Police said there were four eyewitnesses who confirmed the detective had a green light at the time of the crash.

Police said the detective suffered minor injuries and was checked out at a hospital. No one else was hurt.

At this point it's unclear whether the detective was driving his personal vehicle or an unmarked police vehicle.

Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating, which is standard practice in any crash involving an officer.

JSO said once traffic homicide detectives are done looking into the crash, they will cite whoever needs to be cited.
