JSO: Shooting victim lucky to be alive

Man shot in face while visiting friend at Arlington apartment complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a man is lucky to be alive after he reported someone shot him in the face in Arlington.

A man walked into Memorial Hospital just after midnight Sunday with a serious gunshot wound. He told officers he had gone to visit a friend at The Plaza Apartments at 3780 University Club Blvd. when two unknown men approached him and tried to rob him at gunpoint. He told officers one of the men forced him to kneel in the bushes and the other man shot him in the face. The men ran and the victim called a friend, who drove him to the hospital.

Officers said the victim was in stable condition.

Officers responded to the apartment complex but were unable to find the scene of the crime and said residents told them they did not hear any gunshots.

If the men are identified, they will be charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery.
