JSO tries to get guns off the street with buyback

For every gun bought, a donation to PAL will be made

Organizers say they collected over 800 guns today.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In an effort to keep guns out of the wrong hands, and to make the streets a little safer, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is hosting a completely anonymous gun buy back event Saturday morning.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Evangel Temple Assembly of God at 5755 Ramona Blvd.

The sheriff's office will pay $50 in cash for every gun that appears to be in working condition.  For every gun they buy, the office will donate $50 to the Police Athletic League from The Delores Barr Weaver Fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida.

Police are asking that anyone bringing a gun to the buyback make sure that the gun is unloaded and is carried in the trunk of their vehicle.
