JTA extends CEO's contract 5 years

Nathaniel Ford's annual compensation will be $300,000

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Transportation Authority Board of Directors voted unanimously to extend CEO Nathaniel Ford's contract for five years.

Ford became JTA's Chief Executive Officer in 2012.

The extension of his contract through December 2020 raises his annual base compensation to $300,000, which is a 4.6% increase from his current salary.

In addition, Ford can earn a performance-based bonus if certain financial performance goals are met annually.

"I have had the privilege of serving as CEO of JTA and am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the organization through the end of this decade," said Ford. "I am very excited about the future. I love living in Jacksonville and appreciate how the community has embraced me. I am honored to continue working with the talented executive leadership team and the dedicated staff who make JTA what is today."

JTA applauded Ford in its announcement Thursday.  It said under Ford's leadership, the management structure was reorganized and JTA launched major initiatives to take public transportation to the next level.

"I am confident that with Nat's leadership, the JTA will continue to thrive in its mission of improving Northeast Florida's economy and quality of life by providing safe, reliable and efficient multimodal transportation services," said JTA Chairman Scott McCaleb.

JTA has an annual operating budget of $91.4 million and more than 700 employees.

JTA designs and constructs bridges and highways and provides varied mass transit services. The system includes more than 40 bus routes and community shuttles, a 2.5 mile long downtown Skyway monorail, Trolley service, Stadium Shuttles for various sporting events and paratransit for disabled and elderly.
