Montre Richardson was convicted Wednesday morning of the second-degree murder in the shooting death of 32-year-old William Rufus Hicks on Easter morning.
According to prosecutors, Hicks and a group of friends were at Richardson’s house when an argument between Richardson and his girlfriend began. As the argument escalated, Hicks stepped in to try and calm Richardson down. Richardson then retrieved a gun and fired at least six shots at the victim.
Hicks sustained three gunshot wounds and died.
Richardson, 21, is facing a life sentence with a minimum-mandatory 25 years under Florida's 10-20-Life law. He will be sentenced the week of Oct. 28.
