Kickball tournament held in man's memory

Bobby Norris, 26, was shot and killed at a party in 2014

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A family is turning a tragedy into something positive, remembering their loved one who was shot and killed at a party on the Northside in 2014.

Investigators said two people opened fire on the party, killing Bobby Norris, 26. The suspected shooters were also killed as others returned gunfire.

On Sunday, Norris' loved ones gathered at Yancey Park for a memorial kickball tournament. It was a way for them to come together to remember Norris and to give back. Participants used the tournament to bring in donations of canned goods and non-perishable foods, all for families in need on Thanksgiving.

"To me, it just feels like I can give back to the community and I can share my love with the team, and we can bond together," said Roneshia Mack, who participated in the event. "It's like a family."

Those involved in the tournament describe Norris as a stand-up guy who wanted to see Jacksonville become a better place to live. They say there's no better way to honor his memory than by giving back.

"I'm just glad the organization was started - it's an outlet for all of us," said Mack.

Organizers say they hope to see more events like this on the Northside. They plan to hold more kickball tournaments in the future.
