JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville classic closed its doors for good after 41 years.

Kostas Pizza Italian restaurant in Five Points ended its tenure Saturday as a staple in the iconic neighborhood.

A long line formed down Park Street as people waited to dine at the time-honored restaurant for the last time.

Kostas posted a Facebook message on June 2, thanking the countless families who have been patrons over the last four decades.

Even some of us at News4Jax couldn't help but be a little sad, remembering going to Kostas in our younger days.

The following was posted on Kostas Pizza Italian’s Facebook page:

Dear Friends and Family, after 41 amazing years in business, Kostas' Pizza Italian will be closing. Countless families and generations have grown closer to us over the decades and a piece of the 5 Points history will soon be a fond memory. Thank you for being a part of our family! Thank you for the memories!

Our last day is June 10th which is also the day after Kostas' birthday. He wouldn't want to spend his birthday anywhere else, the place where he poured his heart and soul. Come say "Hi!"

The space is slated to remain a restaurant. Jacksonville Beach-based pizza restaurant, Biggie's Pizza, will take over the space, opening its second location
