Lake City teen arrested in burglaries

Police: Stolen items sold via a Facebook page

LAKE CITY, Fla. – A teenager was arrested in Lake City after numerous burglaries were reported at Windsong Apartments.

An investigator following up on the burglaries got a tip about a 15-year-old at the complex, who had an active felony pick-up order for cultivation of marijuana.

The investigator arrested the boy on the drug warrant and asked him about the burglaries.  He cooperated with officers and directed them to a handgun hidden in his bedroom, according to LCPD.

While recovering the handgun, several pieces of electronics were seen in plain view, matching the description of the items previously stolen around the complex days earlier.

Several bongs, a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia were also in the bedroom in plain view.

After a judge signed a search warrant, officers and deputies returned to the apartment. They recovered three handguns, two pellet rifles, ammunition, more drugs, two cellphones, three video gaming systems, video games and gaming headphones.

Several other cellphones that were stolen during the burglaries had already been placed for sale or sold on the "Lake City Buy/Sell/Trade" page on Facebook.  It's a common place for stolen phones and tablets to be sold locally, according to LCPD.

Items reported stolen in two of the burglaries were returned to their owners.

The teenager is facing multiple charges, including burglary, grand theft, possession of firearm by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.
