Landfill search for missing woman continues

22-year-old reported missing March 18; boyfriend arrested on gun charges

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Investigators are still searching through mountains of garbage at a Maxville landfill looking for any evidence that might help them find a missing woman.

Brittany Foote, 22, was last seen March 18. Friends said she was living with her boyfriend, 29-year-old Courtney Lamar Davis, who is in jail after being arrested on firearm charges.

A man who drives a dump truck said despite the investigation, it's been business as usual for the drivers at the landfill. They are dumping their trash into a different area so it doesn't affect the search.

Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office started their investigation at a dumpster on Dunn Avenue but quickly turned their attention to a nearby landfill off U.S. 301.

Investigators are up on top of the landfill with a bulldozer. What they're doing is picking up portions of the trash and spreading it around, and then detectives search through it for any evidence.

At one point Thursday, an ambulance and JSO crime scene unit van were seen heading toward the landfill. But there's no word on whether they found something.

According to friends and family, Foote moved to Jacksonville last summer to live with Davis, who they said is in the military. Friends said they believe her relationship with Davis was a bit rocky.

Davis (pictured) was arrested March 27 for possession of a firearm by an out-of-state felon in connection with an incident that happened March 21. He has not been charged in Foote's disappearance.

Davis had been at the hospital for treatment for undisclosed reasons but was moved back to the jail.

Davis has a long criminal record dating back to 2003 that includes charges for armed robbery, assault, theft, carjacking, marijuana possession and attempted burglary. He was found not guilty on charges of murder, attempted murder and assault in January 2003.

Employees at the landfill said Thursday that they had a meeting with JSO around 1:30 p.m. to see what's next in the search.

If detectives find anything or there are any new developments in the case, News4Jax will update this article.
