Largest pumpkin ever grown sets world record

California man's whopper weighs in at 2,032 pounds

A California man has broken the world record for the largest pumpkin ever grown with a whopper weighing in at 2,032-pounds.
The pumpkin, grown in lumber salesman Tim Mathison's backyard for 105 days, set the record at the 23rd annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, hosted by Uesugi Farms over the weekend in California's Napa Valley, according to the Napa Valley Register.

Mathison celebrated the feat with his wife, son and a dozen fellow growers on Saturday.

"I was surprised. I didn't think it was going to go that heavy. ... I was very surprised and happy," he told the Register. "The weather was very good this year."

The previous world record was held by a 2,009-pound pumpkin grown by Ron Wallace of Greene, R.I., last year.

Mathison's pumpkin is now on its way to New York City for a series of media events, according to San Francisco TV station KTVU.
