FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Shrimp, shrimp and more shrimp as the 51st annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival wrapped up Sunday in Fernandina Beach.
Thousands of people showed up for all of the fun and excitement.
There are a few secrets to some shrimp recipes.
"I soak them in milk. When I'm doing it it's a whole lot of love added into the shrimp," said Maybelle Kirkland-Brown.
Organizers say the festival helps more than 50 nonprofits in Nassau County raise money.
The family-fun festival offered things for people of all ages to enjoy, including arts and crafts, antiques and music.
Festival organizers say the event usually brings in 120,000 people. It also brings in millions of dollars to the local economy.
"It's a nationally recognized festival. We're one of the top 20 events in the southeast according to Southern Tourism," said Mark Deaton, Shrimp Festival chairman.
The event meant a lot for Graham Jewell, who was crowned Miss Shrimp Festival.
"It was quite a surprise. But I'm very pleased. It was nice to participate," said Jewell.
Festival organizers said they hope to find out soon how many people attended.
