Law firm holds 9/11 day of service

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The law firm of Holland & Knight as part of the 9/11 day of service and remembrance held a day of service. This is the fourth year the law firm has held the events in honor of Glenn Winuk who was a volunteer EMT killed in New York City helping others during the terrorist attacks.

Hundreds of volunteers, from Holland & Knight and other partners, both inside and outside of The Bridge of Northeast Florida did everything from redoing the entry way, sanding tables, cleaning chairs and planting new trees. Volunteers all wanted to do something  in memory of those like Glenn Winuk

who lost their lies.

"Glenn volunteered on 9/11. This is what he would want us to do, volunteer. That was his spirit, that's why we are here today," said Daniel Bean, executive Partner of Holland & Knight.

The bridge of Northeast Florida helps thousands of kids every year get the education they deserve. With the new look to the school, the hope is that it makes it even more of a place students are excited about going to.

"It's just like adults. When you get that new pair of shoes or that new suit, it gives you a sense of pride. It gives a sense of peace, a sense of belonging, and a new attitude. I think that at The Bridge, we are always trying to impose those values on our students," said Shariffa Spicer, CEO Bridge of Northeast Florida.

"We think it's very important for these children to know that there is someone that cares about them in addition to their families. There is other people in the community that care about them and want them to do well," said Daniel Bean, executive partner of Holland & Knight.

The school is thankful they were picked as this years organization to be helped.

"Holland & Knight has identified us as a service organization. They feel that we are special heroes in our Jacksonville community that gives back, so they wanted to give back to us," said Spicer.

Holland & Knight hope to grow this event. They'd like to see 10,000 people in Jacksonville  take part in the service initiative.
