Lightning causes attic fire in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY Fla. – An attic of a home went up in flames after a lightning strike during afternoon of severe storms in St. Johns County on Friday.

The fire started just before 3:30 p.m. when lightning struck a two-story home on Prince Albert Avenue in the Aberdeen subdivision, setting fire to the attic.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue crews reported heavy smoke coming from the roof and eaves.

Firefighters from SJCFR's North and Central Battalions were able to quickly put out the attic fire.

The damage was limited to the attic and the family's possessions were saved. 

No injuries were reported.
