ORLANDO, Fla. -

Former Orange County Commissioner Mildred Fernandez has been sentenced to 22 months in prison in her corruption case.

A judge sentenced Fernandez Thursday. She pleaded no contest last fall to a count of receipt of unlawful compensation for official behavior and seven other counts. The other counts included acceptance of illegal campaign contributions and certifying a false campaign finance report. She could have received up to 15 years in prison.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Fernandez's attorney argued during a hearing Thursday that Fernandez was entrapped by law enforcement officers. He also said Fernandez suffers from a stress-related blood-pressure condition and that any jail or prison sentence could be a death sentence.
