18-year-old pedestrian killed in crash near Duval-Nassau line

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating a traffic crash that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old woman walking not far from the Duval-Nassau county line on Tuesday night.

Around 9 p.m., police and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to 8500 Acree Road in reference to an accident with injuries.

Traffic homicide detectives reported a silver Ford Taurus was heading east on Acree and struck Alysa Morton, who was walking eastbound in a lit area near her home.

JFRD said Morton died at the scene.

According to police, the driver and passenger were uninjured and notified police about the incident. They also stayed on the scene until officials arrived.

Right now, it's not known if drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.

Roads were temporarily closed from Acree Road at Old Kings Road to Thomas Creek Road.

Police said the crash is still under investigation.
