JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three months after a man and woman were found dead in a wooded area near downtown, police announced that two men are charged with their murder.
The burned bodies of Jeanette Hawkins, 36, and her husband of about five months, 31-year-old Ricardo "Ricky" Morgan, were found off South Myrtle Avenue near Harper Street in late August, about two weeks after they were reported missing.
At the time, investigators said it appeared the bodies had been in the woods for nearly a week. An autopsy found both victims were shot to death.
Police announced Tuesday they had arrested Emanuel Presley, 24, and Tyreyon Washington, 19, over the past few weeks on charges of murder.
According to the arrest reports, Washington admitted to planning, kidnapping and killing the couple. They were killed on the Westside and their bodies were dumped in the wooded area.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lt. Rob Schoonover said drugs were a factor in the couple's deaths, but would not give any other information because the case remains under investigation and other arrests are expected.
