2 families displaced by apartment fire

JFRD: Water heater may have contributed to fire; cause under investigation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two families are displaced after an apartment fire Wednesday morning in the Arlington Hills area, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Around 6:15 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to the Eagles Pointe Apartment complex, located on 3501 Townsend Boulevard, in reference to a fire.

JFRD said a woman heard the fire alarm in her apartment and called 911.

When firefighters arrived, no fire was seen, but a lot of smoke was coming from an apartment building according to JFRD.

Several units were evacuated during the fire, but only two units sustained major damage from the smoke and fire, according to JFRD.

A family of four living in an upstairs unit, and a man living in another unit were displaced and are getting assistance by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but firefighters believe the water heater may have contributed to the fire.
