JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Darryl Ronald Hollis, 25, was convicted Friday evening on two counts of sexual battery and one count of burglary with assault or battery for the 2008 attack on a 49-year-old woman.
Prosecutors says Hollis broke into the victim's home while she was sleeping in August 2008. The victim woke up to Hollis standing next to her bed with a large knife. Hollis forced the victim from her bed to the living room where he repeatedly sexually battered her. He then forced the victim back to her bedroom where he attacked her again while continually threatening to kill her if she did not cooperate.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer investigators found Hollis' fingerprints in the bathroom near the window he used to break into the home. Police later matched DNA found on the victim to Hollis.
"Thanks to forensic and medical evidence, justice was served in this case," said Assistant State Attorney Stacie French.
Hollis faces life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of April 8.
