He is currently in the St. Johns County jail on bonds totaling $74,500.

A second suspect charged in the robbery, 23-year-old Deshawn Perkins, is facing escape charges as well.

Perkins was apprehended after fleeing on foot into a wooded area following the pursuit, deputies said. They said he claimed to have chest pains and an ankle injury and was transported to Flagler Hospital. While being escorted during treatment, Perkins sprinted out the east door and fled into the marsh, deputies said. They said he gave himself up when a canine deputy arrived to begin a search.

In addition to the escape charge, Perkins is charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and resisting arrest without violence.

He is being held in lieu of bonds totaling $171,500.

The first suspect, identified as 28-year-old Tyrus Kornegay, is facing charges after being released from the hospital. He is in critical condition at UF Health Jacksonville. He was flown to the hospital after receiving a gunshot wound to the back when one of the other suspects attempted to toss the firearm out of the window during the pursuit and it discharged, deputies said.

Deputies said two of the three suspects entered the Kangaroo at Wildwood Drive and U.S. Highway 1 just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded money and cigarettes, deputies said. They said the two fled with an undetermined amount of cash and cigarettes and got into a vehicle with the third suspect.

The trio was spotted leaving a mobile home park nearby in a blue Mitzubishi, deputies said. The first responding deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver sped off westbound on Wildwood, deputies said.

Deputies deployed Stop Sticks and performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect vehicle before the suspects ran off the road and onto a driveway in the 1900 block of Wildwood Drive, then fled into a heavily wooded area before being caught, deputies said.
