JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Starting Jan. 1, four new red light cameras will go active at four different intersections on the Westside.
Anyone caught by a camera at any of these lights on Blanding Blvd. within the first 30-days will receive a warning citation in the mail.
There were about one million red light tickets given in Florida during 2013. It's likely that on a busy road like Blanding, this will mean many more tickets in 2014, and that's getting mixed reactions from drivers.
"I believe it will [work] in a way because if they see it, and if they get that one ticket they should know better," said Joe Sweatman, a driver who frequents Blanding. "Me personally, a red light means stop."
For Nancy Denslow, the new cameras are acceptable to a certain extent.
"For accident purpose, I think it would be alright," said Denslow. "But for tickets, I don't think it's right."
There are now a total of 24 red light cameras around the city of Jacksonville. The intersections where red light cameras exist are usually notorious for being the most dangerous intersections in the city.
If you run a red light and get a ticket, it will cost you $158.
The new red light cameras will be along the following intersections:
Blanding Boulevard at Argyle Forest Boulevard - Eastbound Approach
Blanding Boulevard at Collins Road - Northbound Approach
Blanding Boulevard at Collins Road - Southbound Approach
Blanding Boulevard and Youngerman Circle - Northbound Approach
