Doctors at Duke University Medical Center have performed a number of surgeries to try to repair his hands and arms.

On Thursday morning, he was riding a tricycle in the hospital to help build his strength.

Earlier this month, Ben had been battling serious infections.

Friends of the Bowersox family are organizing a homecoming for Ben. He and his dad are scheduled to land at Craig Airport at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Friends are asking people to line St. Johns Bluff Road near the airport holding signs and balloons to welcome them home.
