Car burglaries increase during summer months

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The summer months can be a prime season for car burglaries and a northwest St. Johns County neighborhood is the latest one to be targeted.

A neighbor's security camera captured one burglary that happened right across the street from Mike McMillan.

"I guess maybe they think they are protected and people don't pay a lot of attention to 'em and crime doesn't happen generally back in here," McMillan said.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is requesting the public's help in identifying the man and woman in the video.

Channel 4 crime analyst Ken Jefferson said it's important to remember to lock your cars.

"If you have valuables, don't leave them exposed in your automobiles. Lock your cars. It's just temptation for a thief to walk by a car and see something there and not take it," said Jefferson.

Jefferson also says it's important to talk with your neighbors.

"You don't have to hang with them all the time you...don't even have to like them, but it's important to communicate and to what's going on in the neighborhood."
