Charges upgraded for nephew after aunt dies

Police: Man struck 63-year-old at garage sale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Charges were upgraded Tuesday for a man accused of striking his 63-year-old aunt after she died Monday.

Police said Brian Lagitch, 39, of Atlantic Beach, attacked his aunt, Nancy Waldron, at a garage sale at his home Saturday.

Police said Lagitch admitted to hitting Waldron, who was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Lagitch was arrested and initially charged with felony battery causing great bodily harm.

Waldron died Monday as a result of her injuries, and Lagitch's charges were upgraded to manslaughter.

According to a police report, Lagitch's mother, Karen Lagitch, told police she heard her son and her sister arguing in the front yard of Brian Lagitch's home at 91 13th St. West on Saturday afternoon.

Karen Lagitch told officers she went outside and discovered Waldron "bleeding from a cut near her eye and her glasses broken."

The report said Brian Lagitch told his mother that Waldron, "had pushed him and he struck her in the face."
