JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city of Jacksonville says it will restore some of the money needed to keep a local homeless shelter open.
The Sulzbacher Center, which relies heavily on city funding, was facing more than $580,000 in cuts. It worried it would have to shut its doors and threatened to march to City Hall in protest.

David DeCamp, a spokesman for Mayor Alvin Brown, said the city has been working with the center for several weeks and promised to give back more than $297,000 in what DeCamp calls "unallocated grant money."
The shelter still faces $120,000 in cuts, but the city says it will help the shelter look for alternative funding resources.
The Sulzbacher Center did not want to comment.
