Community searches for answers in teens' deaths

Jazmine Shelton, Megan Simmons killed 1 month ago

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Friends, family and law enforcement officials came together Tuesday evening to remember two teenagers whose lives were suddenly cut short after police say someone shot up the home they were in.

It's been a month since 13-year-old Jazmine Shelton and her best friend 14-year-old Megan Simmons were shot inside the Biltmore mobile home.

Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford joined about 100 people from the community to walk the streets of the Biltmore area, looking for answers and asking the community to help them find the person who killed Shelton and Simmons.

"You see the community involvement here now. We saw the same community involvement after DreShawna Davis and Shenice Holmes were killed in their homes innocently," said Rutherford.

The sheriff joined the teenagers' families, knocking on doors and asking everyone in the community to come forward with information to help find the girls' killer.

"Somebody knows something and somebody, I don't know how they rest their head down at night and lay their head down on a pillow knowing they know something," said Megan Simmons' Aunt Neta Sessions.

Jazmine's mother Pancy Shelton told Channel 4 it's hard living day to day with no answers.

"I cry everyday. A day doesn't go by I don't cry," said Shelton.

"So call us and tell us what you know," Rutherford said to the community. "I just wish we had this kind of meeting before Megan and Jasmine met their death right here on this property."

Anyone with information on who might be responsible for the teens' death is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. There is a $10,000 reward for information that will lead police to an arrest.
