JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville city councilman says he'd like the council to consider selling JEA, the municipal electric and water utility for the River City.
Matt Schellenberg, a Republican representing District 6, says it's time again to evaluate what JEA does and whether its role fits into the core function of city government.
If it doesn't -- and he doesn't think it does -- then the city should determine its value and explore the feasibility of its sale, Schellenberg said.
If there aren't any offers that match the value, then the city would keep ownership of JEA, he said.
Schellenberg said he's not advocating selling JEA unless it makes sense financially.
A special committee has been formed to look into it. The first meeting is expected in a couple of weeks.
