Crime Stoppers helping with railway yard burglaries, vandalisms

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A rash of crime at local railway yards has First Coast Crime Stoppers stepping in to help.

Police say burglary and vandalism have become all too common, not just in Jacksonville, but at railway yards up and down Florida's East Coast.

That's why Crime Stoppers has teamed up with Florida East Coast Railway to deliver its message to thieves more clearly.

Officers say they will work closely with the FEC to ensure the people responsible are caught.

"There's two things that we're trying to accomplish in this," said Wyllie Hodges, executive director of Crime Stoppers. "No. 1 is to let these bad guys know -- the ones that are doing the stealing and vandalizing -- let them know that someone's watching. And also, No. 2, through the use of Crime Stoppers, we're letting them know there's a bounty on their head."

Anyone with any information about a crime that occurred along a railway is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
