Deputies: Homeless man burglarized 5 churches

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives in Clay County have arrested a 53-year-old homeless man in connection with the burglary and vandalism of five churches since late last year.

Steven Hardwick was arrested Thursday. Deputies said his most recent burglaries happened this month.

Investigators said Hardwick broke into Church of Christ in Keystone Heights in December and ransacked the offices and kitchen, taking about $220 worth of food, drinks and money.

Deputies said Hardwick left behind information that allowed them to identify Hardwick.

Investigators said Hardwick also burglarized Asbury Methodist Church in Orange Park, Fresh Start Fellowship in Keystone Heights, Community Christian Church in Keystone Heights, and St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Orange Park.

Hardwick caused hundreds of dollars in damage at each church, deputies said.
