Deputies: Man recorded girl undressing

Melvin Holmes, 51, charged with video voyeurism

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 51-year-old Fleming Island man was arrested on a charge of video voyeurism after investigators say he secretly recorded a girl younger than 16 as she was undressing.

According to a warrant from the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Melvin Holmes recorded the girl for his own amusement, entertainment, sexual arousal, gratification, or profit, or for the purpose of degrading or abusing the victim.

Deputies said Holmes installed a camera to record the victim without her knowledge and consent. They said he recorded her as she was dressing or undressing and privately exposing her body at a place and time when she had a reasonable expectation of privacy.

Investigators said Holmes' work computer was found to contain multiple files and folders with pictures and videos of the girl while she was naked. The files were found by his wife, who identified the girl in the photos, investigators said.

Holmes' wife said the computer was used specifically by him and no one else, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Investigators seized the computer and a separate hard drive from the home. They were taken to the Jacksonville FBI center for a detailed forensic scan.

Holmes is the packaging and distribution manager at the Florida Times-Union, where he was arrested Tuesday. He was booked into the Duval County jail with bail set at $50,003.
