Deputies said Avellar and his wife began arguing earlier in the evening. His wife left and went to her in-laws at Waywood Place. About 10 p.m., Avellar showed up at his father's home and began to violently bang on the front door, deputies said.

Avellar's father went outside to talk to his son and they began arguing, deputies said. At that point, the two parted company and Avellar went to his vehicle and retrieved a .45 caliber handgun, deputies said.

Witnesses said Avellar walked to the house and pointed the gun, shooting once. The home was occupied by six people at the time.

Deputies recovered a spent shell inside a cabinet in the garage.

Avellar was arrested at the scene and transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility, where he was charged with six counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, aggravated assault and domestic violence. He is being held without bail.
