Deputies need help identifying homicide victim

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Flagler County sheriff's detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying the first Flagler County homicide victim in 2013.

Deputies were called to 16 Covington Lane last Friday after a resident found the body of a middle-aged, white man in a marsh area behind the home. The body was badly decomposed, deputies said.

The Medical Examiner's Office completed an autopsy Monday and ruled the death a homicide. A cause of death has been determined, but the Sheriff's Office said it's withholding disclosure of that information to aide investigators in interviews they will be conducting in the coming days.

"We are asking anyone who may think they may know this man to give us a call," Flagler County Sheriff James Manfre said in a news release. "Our investigation is continuing, but we would like to be able to notify the next of kin. Someone out there is missing a loved one."

Anyone who may have information on the killing or who may be able to provide information on the identity of the victim is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-277-8477.
