Deputies: Student had gun at St. Augustine High

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office arrested a student from St. Augustine High School on Wednesday afternoon.

The Sheriff's Office say faculty members alerted the resource deputy assigned to the school after a concerned student reported that another student was despondent and possibly had a gun in a backpack.

Deputies immediately contacted the student and the juvenile admitted having a gun in a bag under a desk. The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on a school campus -- a felony. Investigators say the firearm was never displayed and there were no threats made to any students or staff.

The student was transported to the St. Johns County jail without further incident.
