PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – A deputy shot a bobcat that was possibly and was chasing people in Ponte Vedra on Friday afternoon.
Deputies were called to Patrick Mill Circle about 1 p.m. after receiving complaints.

They found the cat and determined it was sick and possibly rabid, and a deputy shot it to protect those around, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and St. Johns County Animal Control were notified and did not respond at the time.
Several witnesses contacted representatives from FWC and reported the cat was possibly a Florida panther. Once the agency was notified, it responded to assist the Sheriff's Office and determined the animal to be a bobcat and not a panther.
