A veterinarian said a dog with the canine parvovirus had visited the park.

Parvovirus is common in dogs and can be fatal if left untreated. It can be spread through dog feces.

Park officials have cleaned the area and sprayed it with a bleach product designed to kill the virus.

It will stay closed this week while county staff take this opportunity to perform additional maintenance.

Veterinarians say dog owners should make sure their pets are vaccinated against parvovirus before taking them to a dog park.
