Drug sting leads to police shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a police-involved shooting on the Westside late Thursday during an undercover drug sting.

Police said an officer shot a person near the intersection of 103rd Street and Firestone Road, about a half of a mile from Forrest High School, about 8 p.m.

Police said the suspect sold drugs to undercover police officers at a nearby gas station, and when he realized they were police, he ran across Firestone Road.

The suspect then hid behind an animal hospital and officers reported hearing a gunshot, said police. Officers then fired upon the suspect.

The person was shot in the leg and taken to Shands Hospital.

No officers were hurt.

The name of the person who was shot has not been released.

Traffic was being detoured near 103rd and Firestone while police investigated.

JSO plans on holding a news conference Friday morning.
