Man's grandmother insisted he surrender after drug deal, police say

BALDWIN, Fla. – A man who led Baker County and Jacksonville investigators on a manhunt after an undercover drug buy surrendered to police after his grandmother insisted he do so, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

After the undercover deputies made the purchase, the man fled in a car back toward Baldwin, investigators said. They said he dumped the car at Clark Street off U.S. Highway 301 and went on foot.

The Baker County Sheriff's Office had K9 teams, and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office had a helicopter in the air as part of the search.

Investigators said the man was hiding at his grandmother's apartment when she told him to surrender. He was arrested and booked into the Duval County jail and will be extradited to Baker County on Tuesday.

The man who was with the suspect was questioned and released after investigators said he had not taken part in the drug deal.
