JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Upset customers of a Mandarin dry cleaner were finally getting their clothes back Wednesday.
Those customers said they had tried for more than a week to pick up their clothes from Jonfor Dry Cleaners on San Jose Boulevard near Loretto Road, but with no luck because the business closed.
There was a sign in the door Tuesday telling customers to call to make arraignments to get clothes.
"I'll wait one more week and see what's going to happen. I don't have any other choice," customer Fredrick Najem said. "If I knew this was going to happen, I would have never come here from the beginning. I think I will call them back tomorrow. They gave me the phone number and I will see what is going to happen."
Channel 4's Jim Piggott called the number Tuesday and found out there is a divorce going on involving the owner. The person who answered the phone was taking down numbers and working to try to find a way to return the clothes to customers.
The owner, Melissa Buchanan, did not respond to calls but did to a text message, saying the clothes would be moved across the street to the Loretto cleaners near Winn-Dixie on Wednesday. Customers were, in fact, picking up their clothes Wednesday.
Buchanan said she was out of town.
She said she left employees in charge and they closed and took all the money as well. She didn't say anything else.
Tom Stephens, of the Better Business Bureau, said it's not unusual for something like this happen. He said he hoped this would work out but that if it did not, there was not much else that can be done unless the customers wanted to spend money and take it to court.
"Make a demand for the clothing, and if they want to pursue it further they have to file a claim in small claims court," Stephens said.
