JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A former Duval County Public Schools teacher was convicted Friday on two counts of sexual battery.

A jury found 36-year-old Robert Luke guilty of molesting one of his former students, a boy younger than 15.

Luke taught at Lake Shore Middle School on the Westside and was fired after he was charged. He was a math teacher at the school since 2008 and a youth soccer and swim coach in community sports programs.

Luke was arrested after the victim came forward and told his or her parents, who called police, investigators said.

Similar allegations were made against Luke in 2007 when he was a substitute teacher at Southside Middle School. He was not arrested then.

"We are pleased that this defendant will no longer have the opportunity to prey on the children of Jacksonville," said Assistant State Attorney Alan Mizrahi.

Assistant State Attorney Jessica Narducci also tried the case.

Luke will be sentenced in July.
