JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The driver of a tractor-trailer was cited for careless driving after state troopers said he caused a chain-reaction crash Thursday night on Interstate 95 involving seven vehicles.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 52-year-old Bernie Williams was heading northbound at Emerson Street about 10:45 p.m. when he failed to notice traffic ahead was slowed or stopped at a transitional lane change due to construction.
Troopers said the big rig rear-ended a car, which caused a chain reaction involving three other cars. The tractor-trailer then went toward the right side of the roadway and struck two other cars, pushing them into the right shoulder and into a concrete sound barrier, troopers said.
The drivers of those two cars were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. No one else was hurt.
The roadway was closed for about two hours while troopers investigated.
