FHP: Pedestrian killed by semi in Hilliard

All lanes of US 1 at Pratt Siding Road in Hilliard reopened

HILLIARD, Fla. – A man was killed after being hit by a semi in Hilliard Wednesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Just after 11:30 p.m. a 27-year-old man was walking in the middle of the road on U.S. 1 northbound at Pratt Siding Road when a semitruck struck the pedestrian.

The semi was driven by 40-year-old Robert Bowen.

The man was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries and later died, according to troopers.

The name of the man who died has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. FHP said the man was from Macclenny.

FHP is investigating if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

All northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 1 at Pratt Siding Road were closed for more than five hours while troopers investigate the crash.

According to the FHP report, the pedestrian was in violation of right of way laws and walking in a travel lane.
