JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A chain-reaction crash involving a Jacksonville Fire-Rescue engine closed part of the intersection at Southside Boulevard and Ivey Road much of Saturday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fire truck and a Ford pickup truck were stopped at a red light about 12:45 p.m. when a Chevrolet van failed to stop. The van, driven by James Fanning, 34, rear-ended the pickup, which was pushed into the back of the fire engine.
Fanning and the driver and a 17-year-old passenger were also taken to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. None of the three firefighters in the JFRD vehicle were injured.
According to the FHP report, Fanning was charged with careless driving, driving with license suspended and driving under the influence.
Lanes of Southside Boulevard were closed for several hours as the accident was investigated and cleared.
