Fishing boat catches fire, towed in Jax Beach

Coast Guard: 2 men, dog aboard fishing boat when it caugh fire

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Two men and a dog aboard a fishing boat were rescued Thursday morning after their boat caught fire in the Intracoastal Waterway.

The Coast Guard responded to reports of a vessel that caught fire and became disabled with two men and a dog aboard south of the McCormick Bridge in the Intracoastal Waterway in Jacksonville Beach just before 8 a.m.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department notified watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center of the situation.

The men were reportedly transiting from Palm Cove Marina in Jacksonville aboard the 33-foot sport fisher Day Tripper when the boat caught fire.

A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Mayport responded to the call. The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported.

After the fire was extinguished, the boat became disabled as a result and drifted toward the McCormick Bridge.

The Coast Guard boat crew stayed with the Day Tripper Sea Tow arrived.

The fishing boat and crew were towed by Sea Tow to Beach Marine around 9:45 a.m.
