FSCJ responds to report on use of financial aid

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville responded Tuesday to a critical report from the Department of Education on how it used financial aid dollars from Washington.

Among the problems the report had revealed was that the college awarded more than $4 million in Pell Grants to 1,300 students by mistake.

College officials now say they agree with some of the compliance issues identified, but they have questions about some other issues.

The college says adjustments will be made right away in cases where administration of the financial aid program needs to be improved, or where practices are not in keeping with government guidelines.

The college is working to respond to each of the issues in the preliminary report. After that is completed ... the Department of Education will issue its final report.
